Grade for Tomorrow Not Today
I believe we have nearly passed through the Information Age that will continue log data exponentially and are about to enter into the Creative Age as Web 3.0 develops. Algorithms (not averages!), the semantic web and new publically available software will be needed to assess complex skills and semantic patterns. However, education is becoming more commercialized and those tools will be part of the elite private schools that can afford them through private funding. It is my hope that learners will be assessed on the ability to use various tools to solve complex problems creatively. In the meantime, we will have a bridging period until society shifts its paradigms of how to validate learning and the tax dollar. The next series of blogs will explore a different kind of assessment software.
